Happy New Year !!

RING OUT THE OLD…………………….

So 2010 comes to an end, a strange year in some respects but over all not a bad one.

On the personal front the highlight for me was first of all making it to sixty years of age, and then enjoying the day in the company of good friends and family, the sun shone as well so a good time was had by all.

The icing on the birthday cake was when Fred Crouch arrived at my house after making the long drive while not in the best health of his life, a true friend and as each of my daughters says, an absolute legend!

Fishing wise it has been a great year, plenty of barbel and some good size ones as well, the guiding has gone much better than I could have hoped.

Seeing Tottenham do so well in Europe has brought back lots of memories for long term Spurs fans and to end the year watching our cricketers retain the Ashes has been an added bonus. Fingers crossed it continues.

RING IN THE NEW……………….

2011 promises to be a hectic year on all fronts!

Just before the new season gets under way I should be a Grandad for the first time, in a few days from now we’ll know whether in future years  I’ll be playing cricket on Bondi Beach with a grandson or going along to drama lessons encouraging the next Kylie!

Then a few weeks later the main wedding of the year takes place and I’m not talking Wills and Kate, I am talking Katie though, my youngest is tying the knot at what promises to be a fantastic occasion. I’m really looking forward to it and  I’m already working on my speech!

On the fishing front its already shaping up to be one of my busiest ever years. There is much going on in the Barbel Society, my guiding days are well on the way to being fully booked up, as mentioned before a couple of new projects will also take up a good deal of my time and then there is the new stretch ofthe Upper Severn to investigate. And thats before we’ve entered the new year!

I’ll also be doing my very best to keep this website updated and full of useful information for barbel enthusiasts everywhere, and I promise to maintain the friendly atmosphere with all my future blog writing.

I thought life was meant to get easier!

The latest issue of Coarse Angling Today is out and should be of interest to Barbel Society members, apart from Pete’s excellent African Adventure there is an indepth piece on the first fifteen years of the BS.

It just remains to wish everyone who looks in on here, and there are quite a few, the happiest and healthiest of New Years!

All the very best for 2011,

STEVE
